users with specialised requirements during eating and drinking
This is a one-day course to familiarise staff with the
importance of adequate nutrition and good presentation of food and
liquids. The aim is to increase the staff's awareness of good
practice regarding nutrition and recent changes in legislation
surrounding nutrition and care of older people. It will highlight
the importance of good hydration and help staff explore the
specific needs of their service users who have medical conditions
which impact on their nutritional needs
By the end of the course delegates will be able to:
Discuss the nutritional needs of their service users including
common factors which affect their requirements.
Understand the importance of the appropriate preparation and
presentation of food and drink to their service users and how
appearance can affect appetite.
Understand the importance of food hygiene and the use of
personal protective equipment.
Fully assist service users at meal times including
environmental preparations and comfort, including safety
Discuss their role in care planning, nutritional
screening,risk assessment and oral health.
Discuss the specific needs of their service users who have
medical conditions which impact on their nutritional needs.
Assess the fluid intake needs of their service users.
Discuss the importance of documentation surrounding nutritional
and fluid intake.
