Staff from St Helens Council Adult Social Care and Health department and Independent Social Care providers who support adults with medication.
Priority will be given to Managers and Supervisors of staff who administer medication to clients and those staff who have previously undertaken the training and not passed the exam.
Divided into 4 units, this one-day intensive training session will look at the current legislation and guidance for handling medicines. Discussions around the roles, responsibilities and boundaries of the care worker and other healthcare professionals involved with medicines will take place, whilst recognising the different care contexts.
Types of medicines and routes of administration will be fully explored and an overview of recording methods. Safe and good practice in administration of medicines completes the session and looks and at such topics as the disposal of medicines and patient consent.
The course is accredited with NCFE (Northen Counties Further Education) and, as a result, a short test is completed at the end of each unit. This will consist of 8-10 multiple-choice questions and 1-3 short answer questions around your current practice.
